Winter is hard on every part of our bodies, but eyes really do suffer when the weather is dry. I was complaining to a friend that I had dry, red, itchy eyes but no known allergies. My doctor had recommended an effective but expensive over-the-counter eye drop that took care of the problem, but in the process made me wince at the price and because the drops stung. She suggested a simple solution: First use the least expensive plain old saline solution you can find then, if your eyes are still red, use the expensive stuff as a follow up in a now pre-moistened eye. It works well and is effective. Most of the time I don’t even need anything but the saline solution. Of course, that will change come spring. Ah, spring. Hurry spring.
